Hurricanes lose energy when the reach land and cold water temperatures.
El Nino brings warm winds and ocean surface waters towards South America. The currents bring warm tropical weather including heavy rainfall. Indonesia is left with Deep, Dense Cold water rising to the surface which in turn leaves the country with dry climate.
