5.How do landforms affect local weather patterns?
MAJOR CONCEPTS: Landforms affect local weather. Windward (ocean side with prevailing wind) carries moisture laden air from the coast and the moist air moves up the mountainside, cools and condenses. Windward side of mountain has more rain than Leeward side of mountain. Leeward or side of mountain with no moist air will have a dry climate.

-Cold ocean currents have less evaporation therefore less rain
-Warm ocean currents have more evaporation and therefore more local rain occurs.
-Cities away far away from the ocean will have less rain than cities close to a body of water.
